Kushi’s box office journey has been a rollercoaster ride for Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda’s romantic musical. The film made a stunning debut on Friday, raking in an impressive ₹15.25 crore. However, the excitement dwindled on Saturday, with early estimates suggesting a drop in collections to ₹9 crore. Nonetheless, Kushi managed to accumulate ₹24.25 crore nett within just two days of its release.
In terms of regional occupancy, Kushi garnered a 53 percent audience share in Telugu-speaking regions and 45 percent in Tamil-speaking areas on Saturday. It’s worth noting that the film also ventured into the Tamil and Hindi markets.
On the global stage, Kushi made waves by amassing ₹30.1 crore on its opening day, as announced by the film’s producers, Mythri Movie Makers. Their official X (formerly Twitter) page exclaimed, “Blockbuster Family Entertainer #Kushi… Sensational Day 1 with 30.1 CR GROSS WORLDWIDE and a super strong Day 2 on cards.”
Directed by Shiva Nirvana, known for his work on Majili, Kushi marks Vijay and Samantha’s second collaboration since the 2018 Telugu biographical drama, Mahanati, centered around the life of the iconic actor Savitri.
Kushi’s storyline revolves around Samantha’s character, Aaradhya, and Vijay’s character, Viplav, who kindle their love story in the picturesque landscapes of Kashmir. Despite facing familial objections due to incompatible horoscopes, they take the plunge into marriage. However, their union encounters numerous challenges, forcing them to navigate their differences and ultimately find harmony in their relationship.
Speaking about his role as Viplav during the trailer launch, Vijay expressed, “You know you are Viplav, and Aradhya (Sam) is your wife or girlfriend when you watch Kushi. Vijay concluded that Kushi portrays the tale of an ordinary couple, and that’s what makes it a remarkable film.”
Vijay also shared his profound appreciation for working alongside Samantha and director Shiva, stating, “The entire process of shooting it will be one of my favorite memories forever. The two persons I spent the most time with, shared the most memories and highs and lows with, and developed the closest connections with were Shiva and Samantha. I’ll always find it fun to reflect on how this movie was made.”
